Turn your terrace into the heart of your home thanks to aromatherapy
The heat is coming and with it, the wonderful summer nights in our terrace and garden. When summer arrives, outdoor spaces become more important than ever in our home, spaces that become the center of our lives during the summer period. There are three basic aspects to convert any balcony, terrace or garden into a small temple dedicated to relax: ambience, lighting and decoration.
Aromatherapy: “the decoration you can’t see”
When we speak about ambience, we are referring to that peaceful atmosphere that floats in the air and which is largely related to smell. Here the Aromatherapy is our main ally, not in vain is known as “the decoration that is not seen”. Smell is one of the senses that sends the most signals to the brain and of those that most influence our state of mind. Aroma produces very different sensations in our brain, allowing us to relax, stress… and even make us hungry! That is why we recommend, as always, that you dress your terraces, balconies and gardens with flowers, always including some aromatic species that floods the air with fresh and relaxing smells. You can also work on aromatherapy by using scented candles and essential oils, especially in interior spaces where we don’t usually have as many plants as in the exterior areas of our house. Choose the aromas that you like most for your home and start enjoying the relaxing benefits of Aromatherapy.
The use of candles in the Aromatherapy takes us to our second point to treat: the illumination. Soft light points, such as those generated by candles, help us to create a relaxing atmosphere, this time affecting our sense of sight. Candles have become a “Zen” element that everyone identifies with creating a relaxing atmosphere. Several points of dim light help our body to relax more than the use of a few points of strong light, so we always recommend that you use candles or outdoor torches to give your terraces and gardens that summery and relaxing touch you want. The colour of these natural lights relaxes the eyes and unconsciously immerses us in a state of peace.
Last but not least, we have to talk about the decoration. In this case we are going to focus on two elements that in our opinion are very important and to which we recommend you to pay attention. One of them is the furniture, but not in the traditional sense of decoration. This time we are interested in the quality and ergonomics of the furniture, especially in the exterior spaces of the house. If we talk about relaxation, it is crucial that we give priority to the ergonomics and comfort of our furniture, since an uncomfortable chair or table can ruin our attempt to relax on the terrace. Chairs, sofas, deckchairs and tables can be comfortable regardless of the material they are made of, a feature that stands out in pieces manufactured by brands specializing in outdoor furniture. In addition, outdoor furniture specialists create their pieces to last over time and to undergo the punishment they will receive from the sun, wind or rain, so you can be sure that your outdoor furniture will have a long life.
The other aspect to deal with is the decoration elements (beyond colors or style) that help us create a visually relaxing space. Here again, our advice is plants and flowers. Dress your house with plants and flowers and you will feel a little closer to nature. Contemplating the beauty of your flowers and giving a green touch to your home will do more to create a peaceful atmosphere than all the wallpaper in the world. In addition, we have already told you on other occasions how relaxing and rewarding it is to take care of our plants, seeing how the fruits of your efforts materialize in the form of healthy flowers and plants.
